Friends had been asked over a long period to provide a Boules court in the park as the local facilities were no longer available. Teams from across the county had no local playing facilities. As transport was required, many of them could no longer afford to play. Eventually under the persistence of Ray Goodman, a well-known local player, the project was initiated.
With the influence of his daughter, Sarah, contributions from various companies at Brackmills together with a number of funding bodies the project began. It was constructed very according to the plans laid down by the national association. It entailed deep foundations and a number of layers of underlying materials. Sarah enthusiastically managed the early morning deliveries and accompanying digging machinery in all weathers. Community Payback teams provided most of the labour.
Eventually the project was completed. Before it could be opened we had to provide fencing for the area to discourage misuse of the surface.
It was formally opened in May 2014 by John Griff from Radio Northampton.
It has proved very popular and is used regularly by individuals, families and teams. It is designed to be available to disabled players which is a key feature of the facility.
