The team here at Abington Park has been busy this week constructing a brand-new stumpery! We are constantly working to maintain and improve the park, and this latest addition is a perfect example of how we combine natural beauty with environmental purpose.
What is a stumpery?
It’s a unique garden feature made from upturned logs and roots. Not only does it look striking, but it also serves as a vital wildlife haven. As the wood slowly decays, it improves the soil structure and provides a home for countless “mini-beasts.” In the coming months, we plan to enhance the area even further by planting lush, shade-loving ferns. 😀
Putting Abington on the Map
We are also thrilled to announce that our new log pyramid has been officially registered on the People’s Trust for Endangered Species (PTES) map. This habitat is a major win for conservation, specifically supporting the local Stag Beetle population.
Come and See for Yourself!
Next time you’re out for a stroll, come find the stumpery and see if you can spot any early residents! We love seeing the park evolve and hope you enjoy these continuous improvements as much as we enjoy building them.
